Eorna is an artist, who is passionate about the arts, painting and teaching. She studied in Paris and Dublin graduating in fine art from NCAD 1990. She lives on the outskirts of Dublin city’s south side and part-time in the west of Ireland, where she has easy access to the mountains, sea and landscapes which feature largely in her “plein air” work.
This work invigorates her spirit and enables her to share the mindful, magical experience with her students back in the studio and online. Her work is more than figurative. It draws on multiple preparatory studies, memories, emotions, the physical sensations and joy of being in the landscape, working in “plein air”. The excitement is palpably conveyed through her work which is very free and expressive.
“working out of doors gives me head space. It satisfies and replenishes something deep in my spirit and soul”
“……. because no where will you see the Irish landscape so truthfully portrayed. This is the view from under a silver Celtic sky – not an idealist azure blue or Mediterranean or Bahama light. So here we have an earthy vision. a very feminine vision of heavy broody skies, swollen seas, rivers parting peaty land, green fertility….”
Excerpt from Anne Harris, journalist and former editor of the Sunday Independent, opening speech to Eorna’s’ “off the beaten path”. exhibition 2019
